Situated in the Balkan Mountain itself among nature blessed by the Lord and amazing with its beauty, "Vratsa is a place created by the Spirit, where knowledge and art are flourishing so other areas of our country can use them too". This was written in "Tzarigradski Vestnik" (Tzarigrad`s newspaper) in 1858, in Tzarigrad - the present city of Istanbul.
The town of Vratsa is the administrative centre of the District of Vratsa and the Municipality of Vratsa. It is situated in the north-western part of Bulgaria at the foot of Vratsa’s mountain, about 110 km north of Sofia, about 40 km south-east of Montana and 14 km north-west of Mezdra.
The average altitude of the town is 410 m.
